Air Astana restarts Dubai services with revised flight paths

Air Astana is set to restore scheduled services between Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates in a phased return to operations, following months of disruption caused by regional security concerns and airspace restrictions.

According to information released by the airline's press service and reported by The Astana Times, the carrier will resume flights from Almaty to Dubai on 20 June and restart Astana-Dubai services on 10 July. All flights will operate via Pakistan as the airline adapts its routing strategy to ensure operational safety following the closure of Iranian airspace.

The move marks the first step in rebuilding one of the airline's key international routes after services were suspended earlier this year.

Operations resume in phases

Rather than restoring its full schedule immediately, Air Astana plans to gradually increase capacity over the coming weeks.

The airline outlined a phased approach that will see frequencies increase progressively as operations stabilise.

Key schedule changes include:

• Almaty-Dubai-Almaty flights restarting on 20 June

• Astana-Dubai-Astana services resuming on 10 July

• All flights operating via Pakistan

• Almaty frequencies increasing from two weekly services to daily operations in early July

• Astana frequencies gradually expanding to daily services by early August

The airline said the staged rollout is designed to support a smooth restoration of services while accommodating revised operational requirements.

Dubai remains one of the most significant international destinations for travellers from Kazakhstan, serving both tourism and business demand throughout the year.

Route adjustments follow Iranian airspace closure

The revised flight paths reflect ongoing changes in regional aviation operations following the closure of Iranian airspace.

According to The Astana Times, all restored Dubai services will be rerouted through Pakistan to maintain safe operations.

Airlines operating between Central Asia and the Gulf region have been forced to reassess flight paths in response to changing geopolitical and security conditions across parts of the Middle East.

Alternative routings often result in longer flight paths and additional operational planning requirements, but carriers continue to prioritise safety and regulatory compliance when determining schedules.

Flexibility offered to affected passengers

The airline has also introduced additional flexibility for customers whose travel plans were disrupted during the suspension period.

Passengers holding previously rebooked tickets for flights scheduled before 31 July will be able to move onto earlier available services without incurring additional rebooking charges.

According to the airline:

• Passengers on Almaty routes may rebook onto earlier flights from 20 June

• Passengers on Astana routes may rebook onto earlier flights from 10 July

• Eligible travellers can make changes free of charge

The measure is intended to provide passengers with greater choice as services gradually return to the schedule.

The airline has encouraged affected customers to review available flight options once operations resume.

Suspension began in March

The restoration follows a prolonged interruption that began earlier this year.

According to The Astana Times, Air Astana and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan suspended Dubai flights from 11 March due to the tense security situation in the Middle East.

The suspension affected one of the most important international leisure and commercial corridors served by Kazakhstan's aviation sector.

Dubai has become a major destination for travellers from Kazakhstan, supported by strong tourism demand, business links and onward international connectivity through the UAE.

The return of services therefore represents a significant step towards restoring regional air connectivity that had been disrupted by geopolitical developments.

Airline continues to monitor regional developments

While the resumption timetable provides greater certainty for travellers, Air Astana has indicated that the situation remains subject to ongoing review.

The carrier said it will continue assessing developments across the Middle East and evaluate any impact on operational safety and scheduling requirements.
