Akasa Air adds seventh aircraft this year, fleet reaches 38 planes

Akasa Air has inducted its seventh aircraft of 2026, taking its total fleet size to 38 planes, as the airline continues to expand capacity and deepen its network across domestic and international routes.

According to The New Indian Express, the latest addition, a Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft bearing registration VT-YBK, arrived at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on April 21 after a multi-leg delivery journey from the United States via Iceland and Egypt.

Fleet expansion gathers pace

The airline has maintained a steady pace of inductions in the first four months of the year, signalling a continued focus on scaling operations.

The aircraft is configured to Akasa Air’s specifications and fitted with Safran Z200 seats, aligning with the carrier’s standardised fleet strategy, The New Indian Express reported.

In a statement, the airline said that the ongoing fleet expansion would support network growth. “Since commencing operations in August 2022, Akasa Air has demonstrated a consistent approach to building scale. With each aircraft induction, the airline continues to strengthen its presence across domestic and international markets,” it said.

Order book supports long-term growth

Akasa Air has placed a firm order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with 188 additional aircraft scheduled for delivery over the next six years, according to The New Indian Express.

The airline currently operates flights to 26 domestic and seven international destinations, reflecting a gradual expansion beyond its initial domestic focus.

The scale of its order book positions the airline among the more aggressive fleet expansion stories in India’s aviation sector, even as carriers seek to capture rising passenger demand.

International network continues to widen

The airline has also been adding new overseas routes as part of its growth strategy. It recently announced the inclusion of Hanoi as its seventh international destination, with services scheduled to begin on September 4, 2026.

The route will see four weekly direct flights between Mumbai and Hanoi, targeting demand for short-haul international travel.

Anand Srinivasan, co-founder and chief commercial officer, said the new route would strengthen the airline’s regional footprint. “The launch of direct flights to Hanoi strengthens our presence in South Asia and marks another step in our effort to build a network that connects India with dynamic global destinations,” he said, as quoted by The New Indian Express.

Focus remains on scale and connectivity

Akasa Air, which began operations in August 2022, has pursued a strategy centred on rapid but measured fleet expansion, supported by a single aircraft type to optimise costs and operations.

The addition of seven aircraft so far this year indicates continued execution of that strategy, even as competition intensifies in India’s aviation market.

With a substantial delivery pipeline and growing international presence, the airline is expected to continue expanding capacity in the coming quarters, subject to market conditions and operational readiness.
