Blue Dart celebrates three decades of aviation operations in India

Blue Dart has completed 30 years of aviation operations, marking a milestone in the company's evolution as one of India's leading time-definite express logistics providers.

According to a company statement distributed through NewsVoir, Blue Dart's aviation network has been a central component of its integrated logistics infrastructure since 1996, supporting rapid cargo movement across the country and enabling next-day and under-24-hour delivery commitments.

The milestone highlights the growing role of dedicated air cargo operations in supporting India's supply chains, e-commerce ecosystem and business connectivity.

Three decades of cargo movement at scale

Over the past 30 years, Blue Dart's aviation operations have supported more than 2.15 lakh flights and handled over 20.5 lakh tonnes of air cargo, reflecting the scale of its air express network.

The company said its aviation infrastructure has helped strengthen delivery reliability and network certainty for customers across sectors ranging from healthcare and manufacturing to financial services and small businesses.

Key operational milestones cited by Blue Dart include:

• More than 2.15 lakh flights operated since 1996

• Over 20.5 lakh tonnes of cargo transported

• Support for industries including life sciences, banking and financial services, manufacturing, automobiles, e-commerce and SMEs

• A dedicated fleet of eight Boeing 737 and Boeing 757 cargo freighters

The company said its aviation operations have contributed to supply chain resilience and faster movement of goods across metropolitan markets and emerging economic centres.

Aviation network played role during national emergencies

Blue Dart said its air cargo capability also supported critical logistics requirements during periods of national need.

The company noted that its aviation network was used to transport vaccines, personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and other essential supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping maintain supply chain continuity during a period of significant disruption.

The aviation operation is supported by pilots, engineers, safety personnel, operations teams, security professionals and support staff who manage cargo movements across the network.

Leadership highlights operational reliability

Commenting on the milestone, Balfour Manuel, Managing Director of Blue Dart Express Limited, said the company's aviation capability has been a key enabler of its time-definite delivery model.

According to the statement, Manuel said the network supports next-day and under-24-hour delivery commitments while strengthening the speed, reliability and certainty associated with the Blue Dart brand.

He added that the aviation capability continues to differentiate the company within India's logistics sector and remains central to its service strategy.

Meanwhile, Capt. Nikhil B. Ved, Managing Director of Blue Dart Aviation Limited, described the anniversary as an important milestone shaped by operational excellence, safety standards, collaboration and customer focus.

According to the statement, Ved said the company plans to continue strengthening capabilities, leveraging technology and building a future-ready aviation network to support India's evolving logistics requirements.

Today, Blue Dart operates a dedicated cargo fleet comprising eight Boeing freighters, which form a key part of its integrated logistics network.

The company said this aviation capability has helped build one of India's most established air express networks, supporting the movement of millions of shipments over the past three decades.

As Blue Dart enters its fourth decade of aviation operations, the company said its priorities include strengthening network resilience, improving operational efficiency, expanding the use of technology and automation, and supporting the future growth of India's logistics ecosystem.
