Delhi Airport to Boost International Capacity by 50% as T3 Pier C Goes Global

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is set to significantly expand its international handling capacity, with Terminal 3’s Pier C commencing international operations from early May. The move is expected to increase the airport’s international passenger capacity by nearly 50%, adding around 10 million passengers annually.

Previously used for domestic operations, Pier C has been converted into an international facility as part of Delhi International Airport Ltd.'s (DIAL) broader infrastructure optimization strategy. The upgrade will take Terminal 3’s total international capacity to approximately 30–32 million passengers per year.

The expansion also includes significant operational enhancements, such as additional immigration counters, self-baggage drop systems, upgraded security screening, and increased boarding gate capacity—aimed at reducing congestion and improving passenger flow.

The development comes amid sustained growth in international travel demand and aligns with India’s ambition to position Delhi as a major global transit hub, supporting airline expansion and long-haul connectivity.
