The proposed EU–India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to significantly enhance cooperation in the aviation sector, according to the German Consulate General in Bengaluru. Speaking at an aviation conference, Deputy Consul General Annett Baessler highlighted opportunities in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), workforce development and deeper integration between European and Indian aviation ecosystems.
India, currently the world’s fifth-largest aviation market, is projected to become the third-largest within the next decade, creating strong demand for collaboration with European firms. Companies like Airbus already have substantial exposure in India, with over 1,200 aircraft orders from Indian carriers.
The Indian MRO sector alone is expected to grow into a $9.5 billion market over the next decade, positioning the country as a key global aviation hub. Experts also emphasized India’s strengths in engineering talent and digital capabilities, which could further accelerate growth under the FTA framework.
