In a significant relief measure for India’s aviation sector, the government has mandated a 25% reduction in aircraft landing and parking charges for domestic flights for a period of three months. The move comes amid a sharp surge in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices, driven by global crude volatility and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that the decision is aimed at easing operational cost pressures on airlines and preventing a steep rise in airfares. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu described the intervention as a “significant step” to support carriers navigating rising expenses.
The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) has been directed to implement the reduction across major airports, while the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will extend similar cuts to non-major airports. Airlines are expected to collectively save around ₹400 crore during this period.
The move follows industry concerns over escalating fuel costs, longer flight routes due to regional airspace restrictions, and increasing operational challenges. Authorities have indicated that any revenue shortfall for airports will be adjusted in future tariff cycles.
