IndiGo has announced a fresh revision of its fuel charges across domestic and international routes, effective for all new bookings made from 00:01 hours on October 6, 2026.
The airline attributed the revision to continued volatility in ATF prices in recent months, particularly due to geopolitical developments in the Middle East. It said the latest month-on-month increase of more than 14% has pushed ATF prices to among their highest levels in the last decade.
As aviation turbine fuel represents a significant portion of airline operating costs, the increase is expected to put further pressure on airlines’ cost structures and network economics, including those of IndiGo.

IndiGo has revised its fuel charges for domestic flights based on the distance travelled. Passengers will pay a fuel surcharge of ₹375 on flights of up to 500 km, ₹600 for journeys between 501 km and 1,000 km, and ₹900 for sectors covering 1,001 km to 1,500 km. The charge rises to ₹1,150 for flights between 1,501 km and 2,000 km, while journeys exceeding 2,000 km will attract the highest surcharge of ₹1,300.
For international operations, IndiGo’s revised fuel charges vary by region and flight distance. Within the SAARC region, short flights up to 500 km carry a ₹1,000 fuel charge, increasing to ₹3,000 for routes of 501 km and above. Flights connecting to Southeast Asia, the GCC & Middle East, and North & East Asia all feature a standard revised fuel surcharge of ₹5,500. Meanwhile, fuel charges for routes to Africa are set at ₹6,000, and long-haul European routes top the scale with a surcharge of ₹10,000.
The airline said it has opted for a relatively modest increase in fuel charges despite the significant rise in fuel costs, in order to minimise the impact on customers.
“While offsetting the increase in fuel costs would have required a significantly larger increase in the fuel charges, IndiGo has implemented a measured and relatively modest adjustment to minimise the impact on customers,” IndiGo said.
IndiGo said it recognised the additional burden the revised fuel charges could place on customers, citing the sustained increase in operating costs.
“IndiGo regrets the additional burden these revised fuel charges may place on its customers. However, the decision reflects the sustained increase in operating costs and the evolving market environment. IndiGo will continue to monitor the situation and make relevant adjustments as and when appropriate.”
