The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) of Russia will make the (first) appearance of its modernised Il-114-300 regional turboprop and fully import-substituted Superjet 100 (SJ-100), at the Wings India 2026 civil aviation exhibition in Hyderabad from January 28-31. This will reflect a strategic thrust into one of the fastest-growing air transport markets in Asia, as global OEMs recalibrate regional fleet strategies.
Strategic Showcase in Hyderabad
UAC, a subsidiary of the Russian state-owned Rostec group, will showcase the Il-114-300 with a passenger cabin and a flight demonstration role at the heart of a static display. This will be showcased alongside the import-substituted Superjet 100 at the event in Hyderabad, the largest aerospace show in Asia. According to industry reports by Air Data News and Sputnik India, the Superjet cabin has all Russian-manufactured systems, which have been publicly debuting.
Aircraft Specifications and Market Positioning
Il-114-300 is a modern aircraft powered by TV7-117ST-01 engines of United Engine Corporation to replace aging turboprops like Antonov An-24 and other competing models. These include ATR 72 or Bombardier Dash 8, where short runways and independent operations are needed. At the same time, another aircraft with Russian-made PD-8 engines, the SJ-100, is an example of a fully import-substituted regional jet that minimizes dependency on foreign components, as reported by TASS.
International Debut and Regional Interest
The value of such a foreign debut can hardly be overestimated in terms of the global aerospace policy of Russia. According to Aviation Week and Simple Flying, the world regional aircraft market is becoming tighter, and aircraft manufacturers like ATR and Embraer are controlling the markets that were once open to new entrants. The presence of the UAC at Wings India is an indication that Moscow is out to stake its claim on markets where localized production, as well as geographical political relations, can significantly provide competitive benefit. The UDAN regional connectivity programme is working to ensure that the Indian carriers are spreading their operations to tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and therefore, a latent demand is placed on the turboprop and the regional jet solutions, which Russia intends to meet.
Comparative Characteristics of IL-114-300 and SJ-100

Commercial and Strategic Implications
Coupled with the stasis and flight demonstrations, the IL-114-300 and SJ-100 in Wings India 2026 is an actual experiment in how India wants to diversify its regional fleet composition and how established OEMs should keep in mind the competitive pressure that is arising in non-Western supply chains. According to Aviation News, the Indian leasing companies and airlines consider more and more the options that can be discussed in accordance with national manufacturing interests and alliances, especially within the framework of the government program Make in India. How quickly Russia’s offerings translate into letters of intent or purchase agreements remains to be seen, but the exhibition will undoubtedly shape conversations across civil aviation corridors for months to come.
