Swiss International Air Lines has announced the launch of direct flights between Zurich and Bengaluru, expanding its India operations with a new route aimed at business travellers, technology professionals and premium leisure passengers.
The airline said the Bengaluru service will begin on October 25, 2026, and operate until March 27, 2027, with five flights per week. The development was first reported by NDTV Travel.
The route marks SWISS’ first service to southern India and its third destination in the country after Delhi and Mumbai.
Bengaluru becomes SWISS’ southern India entry point
The launch reflects growing demand for direct connectivity between Europe and Bengaluru, one of India’s largest technology and startup hubs.
According to the airline, the route is designed to serve:
- Corporate travellers
- Technology sector professionals
- Premium leisure passengers
- Europe’s Indian diaspora
The airline’s entry into Bengaluru also strengthens competition on India-Europe routes, particularly in the premium long-haul travel segment.
At present, Bengaluru has direct connectivity to five European cities including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Munich through carriers such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Lufthansa.
Flight schedule and operations details
SWISS said bookings for the new route opened on May 19 through its official booking channels and travel agency partners.
Key operational details include:
- Route: Zurich to Bengaluru
- Launch date: October 25, 2026
- Season: Winter 2026/27 schedule
- Frequency: Five flights per week
- Operational period: Until March 27, 2027
Flight timings announced by the airline are as follows:
- LX140 will depart Zurich at 1:20 pm and arrive in Bengaluru at 2:55 am the following day
- LX141 will leave Bengaluru at 4:50 am and reach Zurich at 10:50 pm the same day
Flights from Zurich will operate daily except Mondays and Wednesdays, while departures from Bengaluru will run daily except Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Airline expands long-haul fleet strategy
Alongside the Bengaluru announcement, SWISS confirmed broader expansion plans involving its new Airbus A350 fleet.
The airline said the aircraft will gradually be deployed on additional long-haul routes including Johannesburg and Shanghai after initially operating services to Boston and Seoul.
SWISS expects to have five Airbus A350 aircraft in operation by the end of the year. The aircraft will feature the airline’s updated “SWISS Senses” cabin product across all travel classes.
The move forms part of a wider fleet modernisation strategy as airlines continue upgrading premium offerings on international routes.
Winter network plans reflect operational pressures
Despite the Bengaluru expansion, SWISS also said it would temporarily reduce some services from Geneva because of continuing shortages of aircraft and engine components affecting its Airbus A220 fleet.
Routes from Geneva to Berlin, Hamburg and Pristina will be suspended during the winter season.
For the 2026/27 winter schedule, the airline plans to operate services to 88 destinations from Zurich and Geneva, including:
- 24 intercontinental destinations
- 60 European destinations from Zurich
The Bengaluru addition underlines the importance of India within the airline’s broader international growth plans, particularly as demand for direct Europe-India travel continues to recover and expand across business and premium leisure segments.
