Turkish Airlines places order for up to 150 737 MAX jets

Boeing and Turkish Airlines have announced an order for up to 150 737 MAX aircraft, concluding discussions that began in 2025 and supporting the flag carrier’s expansion plans.

The agreement was finalised in the presence of Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Turkish Airlines has purchased 100 737-8 aircraft and secured options for 50 additional 737 MAX jets, making it the airline’s largest Boeing single-aisle aircraft order. The agreement also includes substitution rights for the 737-10, the largest variant of the 737 MAX family, allowing Turkish Airlines to increase capacity on more routes as passenger demand grows.

Turkish Airlines, including AJet, operates more than 200 Boeing aircraft, including the 737 MAX, 787 Dreamliner, 777, 737 Next-Generation and 777 Freighter.

“This agreement marks another significant step in the continued expansion of our fleet. The new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will bring greater efficiency and flexibility to our operations, supporting the extensive network we serve from our hub in Istanbul,” said Murat Şeker, Turkish Airlines chairman of the board and the executive committee. “We are pleased to build on our longstanding cooperation with Boeing through an agreement that also supports Türkiye's aviation ecosystem.”

By adding more 737-8 aircraft to its fleet, the airline will use the type’s range, payload flexibility and fuel efficiency to serve high-demand domestic and international routes.

The 737 MAX family uses 20% less fuel and produces 20% lower emissions compared with the aircraft it replaces, helping reduce operating costs while supporting Turkish Airlines’ growth plans to meet rising travel demand.

Turkish Airlines’ 737 MAX order builds on its 2025 agreement for up to 75 787 Dreamliners as part of the airline’s investment in fleet and network expansion.

The agreement also includes industrial participation, with Boeing continuing to support and strengthen Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem.
