The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has rejected concerns over waterlogging at the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, stating that the airport’s runway and apron areas remained unaffected despite heavy rainfall in the region.
According to information shared by YEIDA Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Kumar Singh, the airport's drainage infrastructure functioned as designed during the rainfall event, ensuring uninterrupted protection of operationally critical areas. The clarification comes amid public discussion surrounding rain-related conditions at the airport site in western Uttar Pradesh.
Airport operations zones remained unaffected
Singh said there was no waterlogging on the runway or apron, which are among the most critical components of airport operations. He added that the drainage network remained fully functional throughout the rainfall period.
The authority stressed that infrastructure linked directly to aircraft movement and ground operations remained secure and operational.
Key points highlighted by YEIDA include:
- No water accumulation was reported on the runway.
- The apron area remained free from waterlogging.
- Drainage systems functioned effectively in operational zones.
- Airport infrastructure was not impacted by the rainfall event.
- Monitoring continued throughout the period of heavy rain.
Temporary water accumulation reported in parking area
While denying reports of flooding in operational sections of the airport, YEIDA acknowledged that minor waterlogging occurred briefly in the airport parking area following intense rainfall.
According to AIR, the issue was temporary and was addressed immediately by the concerned teams. Water was cleared promptly, and the situation was monitored continuously even during periods of heavy traffic movement.
The authority said all necessary arrangements were maintained to ensure smooth movement within the airport premises.
Authorities step up monitoring amid monsoon conditions
The clarification comes as several parts of northern India continue to experience heavy monsoon rainfall, placing increased focus on the resilience of large infrastructure projects.
YEIDA said it is maintaining close oversight of weather conditions in the Jewar region and is continuing precautionary measures to manage any rainfall-related challenges.
Officials stated that passenger convenience and public safety remain key priorities as the airport project progresses.
Focus remains on infrastructure readiness
The latest statement from YEIDA seeks to reassure stakeholders about the readiness and resilience of infrastructure at Noida International Airport, one of India's largest greenfield airport developments. The authority maintains that critical aviation infrastructure remained protected during the recent weather event and that monitoring efforts will continue as the monsoon season progresses.
