Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has launched the only nonstop service between Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi, becoming the first Middle Eastern airline to operate flights to Luxembourg. The route operates four times a week using the Airbus A321LR, with bookings having recorded strong demand since opening in January 2026.
Etihad’s inaugural flight, EY51 from Abu Dhabi, was welcomed at Luxembourg Airport with a water cannon salute.
“2026 has been a year of strong network growth for Etihad, and Luxembourg is a special addition. We are proud to serve the Grand Duchy with our full three-cabin experience from the very first flight, and we look forward to welcoming guests from Luxembourg and the wider region on board, whether they are travelling to Abu Dhabi or onward across our network,” said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways.
Passengers travelling between Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi on Etihad’s Airbus A321LR can choose from two First Suites, 14 Business seats and 144 Economy seats. The First Suites and Business Class seats convert into fully flat beds with direct aisle access, while Economy features 4K touchscreens with hundreds of hours of films, television programmes and music. High-speed Wi-Fi is available across all cabins.

For travellers from Luxembourg and neighbouring Belgium, France and Germany, Etihad’s new service provides direct access to Abu Dhabi. The UAE capital offers attractions including Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the museums of the Saadiyat Cultural District, such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the new Zayed National Museum.
Visitors can also enjoy the white-sand beaches of Saadiyat Island and attractions on Yas Island, including Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld. Through Etihad’s Abu Dhabi Stopover programme, eligible passengers can add up to two complimentary hotel nights to their journey.
From Zayed International Airport, passengers can also connect to Etihad flights across Asia, Australia and the Indian subcontinent, with destinations including Phuket, Bangkok, Hanoi, Seoul, Tokyo, Sydney and Colombo.
For travellers arriving from Abu Dhabi, Luxembourg offers a range of attractions within easy reach of the airport. Luxembourg City features UNESCO-listed old quarters and fortifications, including the Bock Casemates carved into the rock and the Grund district along the Alzette River. The Kirchberg plateau is home to European institutions and the Philharmonie. Beyond the capital, visitors can explore the Moselle vineyards and the sandstone trails of the Müllerthal, both less than an hour away.
Alexander Flassak, CEO of lux-Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Etihad Airways as the first airline from the Middle East to serve Luxembourg Airport. Our passengers come from across the Grand Duchy and the Greater region, from Belgium, France and Germany, and this new service gives them a nonstop route to Abu Dhabi, with easy onward travel to Asia and beyond.”
In 2026, Etihad Airways is launching new routes across the Middle East, Europe, Africa and North America. Several of these services, including Luxembourg, are operated by the Airbus A321LR, bringing the airline’s three-cabin experience, including First Suites, to more destinations across Europe and Asia. Etihad’s network covers more than 110 destinations, served by a modern fleet of 130 fuel-efficient aircraft.
