Editorial Policy

How the Avionyz newsroom reports, sources, verifies and publishes aviation news, and the standards our journalists work to.

1. What we cover

Avionyz reports on commercial aviation, airports, aerospace, air cargo and the business of aviation. Our aim is to give readers accurate, clearly sourced news and context, written in plain language.

2. Accuracy and verification

  • We report facts we can attribute to a named, identifiable source, and we check names, figures, aircraft types and dates against that source before publishing.
  • We prefer primary sources: airline, airport and manufacturer announcements, regulator and government publications, court and company filings, and on-the-record interviews.
  • When a claim cannot be confirmed, we either leave it out or state clearly who is making it and that it has not been independently verified.
  • We distinguish news from analysis and opinion, and label analysis and opinion pieces as such.

3. Attribution and press releases

  • Information taken from another organisation's announcement, report or story is attributed to it in the text.
  • Stories based on a press release say so and are rewritten in our own words; quotations are reproduced accurately and attributed to the person who said them.
  • We do not publish another outlet's reporting as our own.

4. Bylines and authorship

Articles written by a member of our newsroom carry that journalist's byline, which links to their author page with their role, background and published work. Stories compiled by the news desk from official announcements carry the Avionyz Editorial byline. You can find everyone who writes for us on Our Authors.

5. Independence

  • Editorial decisions are made by our editors alone. Advertisers, sponsors and the companies we cover do not review, approve or change our stories before publication.
  • Advertising and any sponsored or partner content are clearly labelled and kept separate from news coverage.
  • Journalists declare any personal or financial interest in a company or story they cover, and do not cover it where that interest could affect their reporting.
  • We do not accept payment in exchange for coverage.

6. Fairness

Where a story makes a significant claim about a person or organisation, we give them a reasonable opportunity to respond and include their response, or note that they did not respond.

7. Updates and corrections

When a developing story changes, we update the article. When we get something wrong, we correct it openly, as set out in our Corrections Policy.
