Noida International Airport officially entered commercial service on Monday after receiving its first passenger flight, marking a significant milestone for one of India's newest aviation infrastructure projects.
According to reporting by Hindustan Times, an IndiGo flight operating from Lucknow landed at the airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, at 7:55 am, becoming the first commercial passenger service to arrive at the facility since its inauguration earlier this year.
The launch marks the operational debut of the airport, which has been developed to strengthen regional connectivity and provide an additional aviation gateway for the National Capital Region.
The inaugural service, IndiGo flight 6E-2278, departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow before arriving at Noida International Airport on Monday morning.
As reported by Hindustan Times, passengers onboard applauded following the landing, while the aircraft received a traditional water cannon salute, a ceremonial gesture commonly used to mark inaugural aviation operations.
The return flight, IndiGo 6E-2279, is scheduled to depart Noida at 6:55 pm and arrive in Lucknow at 8 pm.
The commencement of passenger services follows the airport's inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28.
The new route is expected to improve air connectivity between key centres in Uttar Pradesh.
Until now, many travellers moving between Noida and Lucknow have relied either on flights operating through Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi or on road transport.
Officials cited by Hindustan Times view the service as an important addition to the state's aviation network, helping strengthen links between administrative, commercial and population centres.
