Star Air, the aviation arm of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group, has announced the launch of direct flights between Ahmedabad and Mundra in Kutch from 17 August 2026, strengthening regional air connectivity in Gujarat and providing a direct link between two key economic centres.
The airline said the new route will connect Ahmedabad, a major commercial and business hub, with Mundra, home to India’s largest private port and a critical gateway for trade and logistics activities.
The service is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities and offer a direct alternative to lengthy road journeys and indirect flight connections.
Route targets business and logistics demand
The Ahmedabad-Mundra corridor serves a region with significant industrial, commercial and export activity.
Ahmedabad is one of Gujarat’s largest economic centres, with a strong presence across manufacturing, finance, education, technology and entrepreneurship. The city has also emerged as a growing startup and innovation hub in recent years.
Mundra, located on Gujarat’s Kutch coast, has become a major logistics and industrial destination through the growth of its port infrastructure. The port handles a substantial share of India's cargo traffic and serves as a key link between domestic producers and international markets.
According to Star Air, the direct service is intended to improve accessibility for businesses, professionals and communities operating across the two locations.
Shilpa Bhatia, Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer at Star Air, said the route represents a strategic connection between two important economic centres.
“The direct Ahmedabad-Mundra service is more than just a flight; it’s a strategic link between two of India’s most dynamic economic engines,” Bhatia said in the airline's announcement.
Three weekly flights scheduled
Star Air will operate the service three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The schedule announced by the airline is:
- S5 628
- Ahmedabad (AMD) to Mundra (MDA)
- Departure: 06:40
- Arrival: 07:30
- Operating days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
- S5 629
- Mundra (MDA) to Ahmedabad (AMD)
- Departure: 18:40
- Arrival: 19:30
- Operating days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
The timetable includes an early morning departure from Ahmedabad and an evening return from Mundra, a schedule designed to accommodate same-day business travel and operational flexibility.
Regional aviation gains momentum
The launch reflects continued growth in India's regional aviation sector, where airlines are increasingly focusing on connecting emerging business destinations and underserved routes.
Industry observers have noted that improved air connectivity can play a significant role in supporting industrial activity, facilitating business travel and strengthening regional economic integration.
For Mundra, direct air access to Ahmedabad provides another layer of connectivity to one of western India's most important commercial centres. For Ahmedabad-based businesses, the route offers quicker access to a region central to logistics, exports and industrial operations.
Focus on economic connectivity
Star Air said the route is expected to support industries that depend on efficient travel and faster movement between business locations.
The airline added that improved connectivity could benefit entrepreneurs, professionals, investors and organisations operating across Gujarat's industrial and logistics ecosystem.
With commercial operations scheduled to begin on 17 August, the Ahmedabad-Mundra service represents another step in the expansion of regional air networks aimed at connecting economic centres beyond India's major metropolitan routes.
